Every part of your house matters as they have important functions. The floor, for example, makes walking around more comfortable especially if it is made of wood. Then, there are electrical components that brighten up the residence at night and power up all the appliances. The first point is the service entry where the electrical service goes from the main grid to your dwelling. To ensure that your setup is safe and correct, there must be no obstruction between the connections; it has to be installed ten feet above the ground and must be well-protected from rain or water.

Next is the panel board which serves as the control centre for all the wiring system. This is where you will find the following components:

• Electrical box. It is used for mounting devices such as a switch or a receptacle for lighting fixtures. This is also necessary when branching out circuit connections or whenever splices are made. Its most important function is to minimise shock hazards and the effects of spark and heat.

• Breaker. This refers to an automatic switch that stops the flow of current when there is a sudden overload or a short circuit. It comes in different number of poles, brands, and sizes. If you have a 240-volt connection, then the breaker used must be a double-pole.

• Wires. The size could differ depending on the amount of current that will pass through it. For instance, a 14-gauge cable can carry up to 15 amps, while the 12-gauge can accommodate up to 20 amps.

Then, there are the branch circuits which are isolated parts of your house wiring that is directly connected to the panel board. They enable you to cut off power in one area leaving the rest to be operational.

Overall, electrical fittings are complicated and highly dangerous to handle on your own. But still, it pays to know its different parts so you can prevent the occurrence of accidents.
